It may be sad, but for years I have been dreaming of a cost effective way to advertise to tourists while they are on holiday in Tenerife. But now my troubles are over. Free WiFi in Tenerife for tourists has arrived, and WiFi advertising looks like it is going to be the killer marketing app!
Over the last few years I spent hundreds of thousands of Euros on behalf of clients buying space in local newspapers, radio, fliers, discount cards, posters, website optimisation, online ads, affiliate programmes, in-flight magazines and TV… I can safely say that the cost per enquiry ranges from expensive to downright astronomical. We swallowed the cost because it was worth it. Tourists spend lots of money when they are on holiday, and a small slice of such a big pie was still a handsome amount.
The problem was wastage. For every advertisement that is seen by a tourist, hundreds are printed or aired that do not. We thought that web based PPC advertising and getting to the top of Google search would be the solution, because we only pay for the adverts that are seen. It was a good system for reaching tourists before they embarked on their journey, but completely ineffective when they arrived in Tenerife. Not so good for a local business trying to reach holidaymakers once they arrive at their destination.
But now things are changing. More and more tourists come on holiday with their phones, handheld gaming devices and i-whatevers. They don’t want to browse the net using the mobile networks because the cost is horrendous. The solution? Free WiFi in hotels, beaches and public areas around the large resorts means that anyone with a wifi enabled device can access the internet as much as they want.
With WiFi advertising your message can reach tourists in the right place and at the right time. Couple it with a free tourist information hub and you have a winner. You can tempt them with discount vouchers and events through banners, articles and information feeds: there are lots of WiFi advertising options. And the cost is a fraction of traditional advertising.
With WiFi advertising prices in Tenerife available from just a few Euros, and zero wastage because every single advert is displayed to a tourist… it’s a no-brainer.
